15     False Hope

Years earlier, when the man’s father was diagnosed with lung cancer, the available treatments were horrible. The pain exacted was intolerable. Survival rates were low.

His mother watched her husband’s body be ravaged by both disease and treatment. In desperation, she searched for, and found, an alternative treatment: Laetrile, a compound extracted from apricot seeds.

The laetrile treatment was not accepted by US Medicine. It was only available in Mexico, not provided by certified doctors, and very expensive.

His father wouldn’t think of it. "Laetrile was a scam – a scheme to take advantage of desperate people."

A few weeks later, jaundiced and emaciated, his father died.
