She was now 62, but she was only four when she sat next to her dying mother. Her aunt found her on the following morning and took care of her until she married sixteen years later.

The aunt was superstitious about traveling, and she refused to carry her possessions with her. Her mother had been slowed down, she said. “Too much stuff!”

Even at sixty-two, the daughter hated to travel because she did not want to leave her things behind.
