The mother and daughter visited the town where he had grown up. It was a small town in the south. The whites and the blacks did not mix at the time.

People still followed the old ways.

On Sunday, they went to church, listened to a sermon, sang hymns, and visited with people who had known him. Everyone was nice to them. There was a big Sunday dinner. The cook’s name was Cynthie.

This was in 1976. Cynthie died several years ago. There are not so many confederate flags now as there had been.
