(2009)    Digital Collage, non-digital materials (dirt, sand, ash, paint) archival inkjet print      12"H x 18"W

The family visited Gardelegen, the city of her father’s ancestry, in 2002. She was eight years old, the youngest of three.

Her father had arranged a dinner with the mayor. Their fathers had played together as children, and he wanted to learn what he could about the man he never knew.

There was a boy at the hotel. His parents were also visiting the city. He told her about a fire many years ago that killed many people.

Her father had not told her about the fire. She wondered if he knew about it.
