Lesson of the Lorikeet

A story told by the Aborigines of Australia tells of a human child born with twisted limbs, who yearned for release from pain. The elders of her clan prayed to the spirit world all night, and in the morning she was transformed into a beautiful parrot, a Rainbow Lorikeet. Thus she became a vivid symbol of the human potential to transform pain and ugliness into beauty with the power of spirits.
