Recursion Series (2016) Inspired by how water-based tusche washes dry in ridges (or how flood waters recede), Polk developed several javascript routines to produce variation among shrinking perimeters. A routine starts by drawing a simple shape (e.g., circle, oval, star, clover). The shape is redrawn repetitively.
Each time, less perfectly, converging towards the center or into a different shape. A randomizing function determines variations in sizing and spacing. These are a few of the infinite variations that can be created. All were done using scripts in Adobe Illustrator. They are vector images and can be printed at any size without loss of detail.
